Nowadays, the terrestrial transport is the principal mode used by companies but it is also one of the most criticized, above all if it is used in urban areas, because of its negative impact on the environment in general. == Description and evolution of the Urban freight distribution == On the one hand, the demand for urban freight transport has increased due to the concentration of the population in urban areas and as the majority of the industrial production is delivered there. Its efficiency is important because the distance involved in this kind of activities has increased. : On the other hand, we have to deal with a specialization of the urban and economic system, with a global division of production and its associated freight. The population density and the large variety of supply chains offering a wide range of economic activities that characterized a city demonstrate the necessity of an efficient, intense and frequent freight urban distribution system that require an improvement of the terrestrial transport, to respond to citizens’ necessities. : However, with the rise in production, distribution and consumption, congestion problems due to the urban freight distribution can disrupt the management of the traffic that also depends on the size of the city and its population.
